At our French Restaurant in the heart of Cheshire, Venison is back on the menu! We love working with this meat for a number of reasons. It is versatile, delicious, and considered one of the most ethical meats available in the United Kingdom.
The word venison derives from the Latin venari, meaning to hunt or pursue. It was introduced into the English language thanks to the Norman Conquest. Venison has been enjoyed for years, and as game meat it enjoys the freedom to roam and life an entirely wild and free existence before being hunted.
Much like pork or beef, venison can be categorised into various types of cuts such as roast, sirloin, and ribs. The meat has found its way onto the plates at La Popote in various ways since in the past, including in stews and as a stand-alone delicacy.
At the moment, venison shoulder can be found as part of our A La Carte menu. It is served alongside Scottish girolles (a delicious golden mushroom, known for a meaty texture), and preserved cherries filo parcel.
